Land Acknowledgement

In our ongoing efforts to develop and maintain strong partnerships with local tribes, and specifically the Wiyot people, College of the Redwoods and Cal Poly Humboldt worked with the Wiyot Tribe to create the following land acknowledgements, which are to be used at both campuses:

Spoken Version (Revised 2023)

We acknowledge that Cal Poly Humboldt is located on the unceded lands of the Wiyot people. We honor them and all neighboring tribes by our ongoing commitment to developing trusting, reciprocal, and long-lasting partnerships.

Printed Version (Revised 2023)

We acknowledge that Cal Poly Humboldt is located on the unceded lands of the Wiyot people, where they have resided from time immemorial. We encourage all to gain a deeper understanding of their history and thriving culture. As an expression of our gratitude, we are genuinely committed to developing trusting, reciprocal, and long-lasting partnerships with the Wiyot people as well as all of our neighboring tribes.

The two versions are not to be used together. The land acknowledgment is either read aloud using the spoken version, or it is printed or displayed visually on a screen using the printed version and not read aloud.

By agreement, no additional changes will be made until the next review cycle in 2026.
